I don't have anything new to say about Jeremy Lin that hasn't been said by several other sports casters - at first nobody thought he was good at basketball but now it appears he's good as shit. The point of this article, rather, is a focus on the comments section of those same stories/videos about Jeremy Lin.
We start with YouTube. Here is one comment from a highlight video of his game against the Lakers on 2/10/2012.

First, he negatively describes Lin as a free mason, and then at the end of his rambling calls him the best basketball player. This is indeed confusing. So let's move on to another of this same individual's comments to see if we can achieve some clarity.

After some investigation I found out that this seemingly unrelated and nonsensical comment is actually a tangential reference to boxer Floyd Mayweather saying that Lin is nothing special. What is perplexing is the reason this commenter chose to discuss Mayweather's rivalry with Manny Pacquiao in the midst of a basketball highlight video. What is not perplexing is the fact that he did so with the same command of English grammar and spelling as a 3 year old Indonesian child. Let us continue with another commenter.
The likes this comment gets still won't be the amount of likes Jeremy Lin deserves..
What this person attempted here was common. He tried to set up his comment so that it would receive several "like" nominations and be catapulted into the top of the comments section. It becomes a source of irony in that it received zero likes and remained buried within the other three thousand comments.

Unapologetic racism. These comments comprise the majority of all comments. I will provide another classic example.
